Location & Identity

Oke-Sopen, in Ijebu-Igbo, is a town located in the Ijebu-North Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. It is approximately a 15-minute drive from Ijebu-Ode and serves as the Headquarters of Ijebu-North Local Government Authority.

Its geographical coordinates are Latitude 6°58'0" North and Longitude 4°0'0" East. Oke-Sopen is number one of the five towns constituting Ijebu-Igbo, with a population of about 175,000 as at the 2006 census, serving as both the political headquarters and the commercial nerve centre of Ijebu-North LGA.

Oke-Sopen was founded by Princess Sopenlukale and Ogunlegi around the 15th century — approximately 750 years ago.

The town's very name, "Oke-Sopen", is itself a living tribute to its founding princess.

Political & Commercial Centre

Agriculture & Commerce

Ijebu-Igbo is the 2nd largest town in Ogun State by land mass, with vast arable farmland supporting a thriving agricultural economy. The area is renowned for its ponmo industry, butchery, sawmills, and diverse crop production.

Natural Resources

In recent years, Oke-Sopen gained national attention for its significant granite mining resources. The Dangote Granite Mines in the community have created employment and generated substantial community development benefits, negotiated under the leadership of HRH the Sopenlukale — covering scholarships, hospital renovation, road construction, boreholes, and youth training.
